How to Make Gyudon (Japanese Yoshinoya Beef Bowl) at Home

Ingredients:

Sausage:

  • 200 ml water 1 tablespoon (tbsp)
  • sugar 2 tablespoons white wine (non-halal, cannot be used)
  • 1 tbsp red wine (non-halal, cannot be used)
  • 1 tablespoon mirin (non-halal, can be replaced with a teaspoon of sugar)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • teaspoon (tsp) dashi powder
  • 1 tsp grated garlic
  • 1 tsp grated ginger

Additional:

  • Beni shōga or pickled from red pickles
  • Shichi-mi tōgarashi or chili with seven Japanese flavours
  1. Prepare all the ingredients needed
  2. Start making the sauce first, namely and water, sugar, white wine, red wine, soy sauce, mirin, dashi powder, garlic and grated ginger, then cook over medium heat.
  3. Slice the onions lengthwise, do not chop the onions.
  4. Once the sauce boils, add the sliced onions for a few minutes.
  5. Add the Healthy Beef Short plate/Sirloin sliced beef in the marinade and the braised onions, and cook for 10 to 15 minutes.
  6. If the beef has turned brown, turn off the heat and wait for the beef to cool down so that the spices penetrate the beef more
  7. Then reheat before serving.
  8. Serve in a large bowl, then add the rice and place the beef and onion mixture on top. You can add pickled red ginger and Shichi-mi tōgarashi if you have one.
